Dapper Day Spring 2015

12 May

I discovered Dapper Day through the clothing store Unique Vintage, and I’m super excited that I did. They do it in 3 different locations, but the one I went to is the one at Disneyland.  This one worked out great for me because I was already heading up to Santa Ana to shoot a fashion show the same day.  So I unfortunately didn’t get to dress up, since I didn’t want to draw attention to myself as a photographer at the fashion show later, but I got to attend the expo and see a bunch of cute outfits, watch some dancing with a live band, and do a little bit of shopping.  We are already working on plans to actually go to Disneyland for the fall Dapper Day, and I’m super excited!  The hubby needs a vintage outfit though, I’ve got plenty. 🙂

I would totally recommend checking out their website and attending one!

San Diego Pet Expo

12 May

The San Diego Pet Expo is a great event for pet owners!  It is definitely mostly geared towards dogs, as we are a HUGE dog-loving city, and then cats, but as you can see from the photos, other pets are welcome. 🙂  I was there with my puppy, Widdle, who had a great time, met some friends, and got some doggy ice cream!

San Diego Tet Festival

11 May

Working my way through some more photos!  This is the San Diego Tet Festival, the Vietnamese lunar new year celebration.  I went to it the same day as I went to the Chinese New Year festival, but the weather got substantially worse, and there weren’t very many people there.  It was the last day, so hopefully more people went to the previous days!  I also did not spend much time there, since it was so miserable, but it looked like it was a good festival.  There were many fun decorations, and there was a singing contest going on while I was there.  There was also a tiny goat petting area, and a lot of tasty looking food!  I wished I had more room in my stomach, but I had also gotten food at the Chinese New Year festival.  From their website, it looks like they had a lot of different events going on throughout the festival.  I am looking forward to going back again when hopefully the weather is a lot better!  Bonus: there was a rainbow, though. 🙂

Chinese New Year

8 Apr

We had many Chinese New Year celebrations in San Diego, but this was from the San Diego Chinese New Year Food and Cultural Fair in the Gaslamp District.  It wasn’t huge, but it had some great food, great vendors, and great performances!  There were some activities geared towards kids, too, so a great family-friendly event.  Photography-wise, it was one of our only cloudy days, but I like the soft lighting, for a change! 🙂

International Dance Festival

7 Apr

I’m working on old photos!  The International Dance Festival was put on by the International Dance Association of San Diego County, on February 15.  I wasn’t there for the entire thing, but I got to see a few different styles of dance, and it was great fun!  The members demonstrated their style of dance, and then opened up the floor to everyone and taught a few steps.  They have classes for pretty cheap prices, so if you’re in the San Diego area, check out their website!

International Houses at Balboa Park

2 Feb

I did a post of general Balboa Park photos earlier, but I took so many photos of the International Houses that I thought they needed their own post.  They are super fun to go through!  Most had small bites of food, but they also asked for donations since they are run by donation, and since I didn’t have much cash on me, I didn’t feel like I should try ALL of them without giving anything, so I tried a couple, and the ones I tried were delicious!  I would definitely recommend trying the food, and donating money if you can!  They are open on Sundays.  Unfortunately, I had to go through pretty fast, because I was with my dad, and he tends to spend very little time looking at things, ha.  I would like to go back and spend more time.  So I also didn’t spend much time on the photos, I basically just snapped photos here and there of as much as I could and didn’t put much thought into them.  They should give you a good idea of what it looks like though!  You can also make it a game of which house is which country. 🙂

San Diego Multi-Cultural Festival

23 Jan

I didn’t take many photos here because I didn’t stay too long, and I felt weird taking photos of the vendors’ stuff.  I need to work up more courage to take photos without feeling like people will think I’m weird and/or to ask people if I can take photos.  I went to a different event after this, which is why I didn’t stay long, but here is the small selection I took at the Multi-Cultural Festival.  It was a lot of fun!  I wish I had actually been able to stay longer and see all the different performances.  It sounded like there was a great lineup!
